About Me

I'm Guillaume (but you can call me William), a French software engineer based in the UK.

I grew up in France. When I was a kid I wanted to be either an architect, an archeologist, or a translator. I also drew a lot, wrote fan fictions and basic poetry.

At school, I was good at Maths and German. I learned to code (in C, then in OCaml) when I was around 14. I was a bit geeky and fascinated by making my own programs and making (and designing) websites, so when came the time to choose a path at university I chose to study computer science and software engineering. I have now worked professionally in that field for a decade.

I am a bit of a language nerd. I learned German (was pretty good) and English (was pretty bad) at school, then learned Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia) then Tagalog (Filipino) on my own. I failed to learn Chinese and Korean by myself, though. I am now fully committed to becoming fluent in Tagalog since meeting my better half and being the mother tongue of our son.

I am still amazed by architecture, at least the aesthetic part of it. That is the first thing that I focus my attention on when I visit a new city. I especially love the colonial architecture in the Philippines, the Victorian and Georgian architectures in the UK, and I will preach to anyone that will listen how I find London incredibly more beautiful than Paris.

I also love watching and listening to business podcasts, gardening, spending time outdoors and with my family. I am now living in Salisbury, in the British countryside.
